Pakistani PM Imran Khan’s conciliatory tone had a claim, an offer and a threat. He won’t escalate, but retaliate if India does; he offered talks and action on terror but underlined the nuclear peril. India may or may not believe him, but will his own establishment listen to him?

The world should step in now, defuse India-Pakistan tension

India and Pakistan are rapidly going up an escalatory spiral. At some point, regional and global diplomats will enter the picture. They should do it now. There’s a downside to waking up after this blood-feud goes to the next level, as it inevitably will. And faster than we imagine.

It’s Supreme Court that needs to tackle Ayodhya, once and for all

The offer by a retired chief justice to mediate on the Ayodhya Ram temple dispute will send the case into a tailspin once again. The Supreme Court must accept that mediation won’t deliver the result it’s hoping for. The issue requires judicial closure, now. The court can’t drag its feet.
