The one-MLA-one-pension decision by Punjab’s AAP government is an important and bold reform. Besides plugging fiscal haemorrhage, it sends out a strong political message. Multiple pensions for MLAs serving multiple terms was an obscenity. It was also a stark example of politicians conniving in self-interest. Good riddance, and brave move.
