Move by states to go back to lockdown is aimless messaging. It can’t prevent transmission

The decision of a few states to again impose lockdowns, including only on weekends, to fight the spread of coronavirus makes little sense. It’s well known that lockdowns can’t really prevent transmission but end up hurting economic activity and livelihoods. Right now, it seems like aimless messaging by clueless governments.

  1. Sorry, but what in your expert opinion and wide experience works?- can the print team elaborate- in more than 50 words please- hang on can use 50000 if you like

    • Test, isolate, treat and educate. Lockdown, coercion, police lathis don’t make a difference to the disease causing virus – they only frighten people and sap away their disease fighting positive spirit.

  2. More than messaging, one fears it betrays panic. Throwing up arms in despair. Four months after the first lockdown was decreed, the virus is spreading, on a rampage. Wider testing would throw up more cases. There is comfort that the number of fatalities is about 25,000. Even here, consider a report that in Surat, about 50 funerals are taking place as per WHO norms for Covid, while the official daily figure of deaths is in single digits. The lockdowns were meant to buy time to scale up public healthcare infrastructure. Consider the images from Osmania hospital in Hyderabad. Discretion being the better part of valour, the Centre has quietly stepped back, allowing the states to carry the ball, and the opprobrium. At the moment, we do not seem to be winning against the virus. One is not even talking here about what this has done to the economy.
