The crisis in Karnataka’s Congress-JD(S) government was foretold after the Lok Sabha elections. This alliance experiment has failed. CM Kumaraswamy should resign on his return from the US. The governor should dissolve assembly and set the stage for polls. BJP should try win a mandate, not form an illegitimate government.

  1. The original verdict of people of Karnataka was for BJP led Government. By forcing an unholy combination and also making the tail wag the body, both Congress & JDS have basically gone against the wishes of the mandate. What I’m finding it unbelievable is while Media (RIGHTLY SO) is pointing out on the horse trading of BJP, while is it silent on the Horse Trading by the ruling parties. It’s a shame that an independent having one vote bargains and gets a ministership, whilst a very senior party MLA, who has won multiple times, loses out. No meritocracy, No competency – Just for survival?

  2. In one sense, the BJP has a better claim in Karnataka than it did in Goa. MP too was very close, but CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan behaved like a gentleman. 2. One person who could have done more to keep the government safe and perform much better, also keeping relations between the two coalition partners stable, was former PM Deve Gowda. He knew the terrain. For his party – or family, if one can tell the difference – this was an existential issue. 3. As it almost was for the Congress as well. To have done so badly in the general election in states where it had come to power recently raises questions about its leadership. 4. As for the current crisis, the BJP will form the government and run it smoothly for four years. It would be good if someone other than BSY could become CM.
