Mount Everest has ‘grown’ 86 cm. China and Nepal deserve credit for figuring this out. But will it make a difference to those who scale it every year? Or to the garbage heaps they leave behind? Not really. So why measure it again? As Mallory said, “because it is there”.
Jet Airways’ plan to restart flying welcome news. India needs more airlines & policy reform
Jet Airways’ plan to restart flying comes as a breath of fresh air in these bleak times for aviation. India, one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, needs more airlines. It also needs more policy reform and a level playing field, not government control. And quick sale of Air India.
World’s tallest mountain is a tourist attraction. Besides, it does not cost anything for home countries to build world’s tallest tower or a statue. Those are waste of money. Everest beats all of them for boasting!!!
I will stick to 8,848 metres, a figure we have grown up with. A magical sight on an early morning flight, a wisp of cloud being blown past it by strong winds. The last phase in the ascent is the Death Zone. Not a presence to be trifled with, despite all the many advances in technique and equipment that now make it accessible to more climbers each year.
A lifelong fan of Jet Airways, before IndiGo won my custom. Indians will welcome the revival of Jet in a way, sadly, they would not for the Maharajah. Unlikely Air India will find a buyer. There is a long history of GoMs leading nowhere.
