Uddhav must rein Shiv Sainiks in. Fight over Bal Thackeray’s legacy can’t be settled on streets

Shiv Sainiks vandalising offices of rebel MLAs is an unwelcome sight. A fight purportedly over Bal Thackeray’s ideological and political legacy can’t be settled on streets. CM Uddhav Thackeray must rein them in. He should reclaim the contested legacy on the floor of the Assembly or in the people’s court.

Indian decision to reopen its embassy in Kabul is brave. New Delhi has critical interests in Afghanistan. It also makes strong strategic sense to keep channels open with the Taliban. It just needs to be on high alert against violent Islamist groups within Afghanistan and troublemakers across the Durand Line.
