Defamation case against Rahul Gandhi is over-the-top. Criminal defamation law has no place in politics. Allegations and name-calling are routine in competitive, cantankerous politics. What India needs, instead, is stronger civil defamation law. Everybody has a right to legal remedy to protect their reputation. A criminalised law isn’t the way.
