AYUSH ministry has done well to stop Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved from claiming its new product can cure Covid-19. Coronavirus pandemic is a serious crisis and can’t be treated like another business opportunity. Patanjali being able to launch a ‘medicine’ just like that exposes how poorly the sector is regulated.
India must keep pressure to ensure LAC disengagement takes place as agreed, not blindly trust China
The India-China agreement to step back from their dangerous conflict in Ladakh has come in good time. But New Delhi should not take it easy and blindly trust Beijing’s word. It should keep the pressure to ensure the gradual disengagement takes place as agreed, without any more transgressions or bloodshed.
Trust is altogether missing when it comes to China. For generations. The armed forces have been mobilised to ensure that no further territory is lost to intrusions. Status quo ante is not easily achieved, but it should be made clear to China that there will be other costs for these sixty square kilometres of frigid land. War is not in the interests of either side. If Russia can play a constructive role, that would add to India’s institutional memory of a friend that has proved its loyalty when things got rough.
I am not sure India should have something called an AYUSH ministry in the first place. It does not pass the test of intellectual rigour and scientific temper. Baba Ramdev is of course what he is. Hopefully this is not our sense of self reliance in healthcare.
