IAF is right to want another set of Russian S-400 missiles. Given its declining fighter squadrons and the cost of new-generation aircraft, it is unlikely that the IAF’s fighter force will reach the sanctioned 42 squadrons in foreseeable future. A deterrent, long-range missile will fill in the inevitable air-defence gap.
