After a year of complaining and throwing tantrums, Shiv Sena has outsmarted BJP in Maharashtra by securing almost half the seats for both elections. This is a climbdown for BJP and shows its desperation to emerge at the head of the single-largest pre-poll alliance after the Lok Sabha election results.
BJP’s perverse Pulwama politics
After Pulwama, the Modi government urged political parties to not politicise it. But Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah have been using the attack like a campaign tool even as coffins are being sent home. This is a perverse manipulation of a tragedy even as the opposition has been circumspect.
HRD ministry should warn colleges on victimising Kashmiris
Modi government’s instruction to states and educational institutions to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students is a very welcome step. It will be even better if the HRD ministry and state governments let all institutions know that those suspending, victimising or banning Kashmiri students will face immediate de-recognition or disaffiliation.
