Modi government’s announcement of higher MSPs for pulses, oilseeds and cereals is a good beginning to encourage farmers to move away from paddy and wheat and diversify. But this plan needs to go beyond MSP. Lower procurements of rice/wheat, extra cash incentives to diversify and education of farmers is needed.
