Modi government has once again underlined its desire to control business by extending air ticket fare cap. Aviation is in dire straits. IndiGo reported a third straight quarterly loss, Air India struggles to find a buyer, and Jet Airways scrambles to revive. The industry needs liberalisation, not more government meddling.
Delhi is bucking India’s Covid trend. It will be tragic if it drops the ball again now
For the fifth week, all key parameters for coronavirus — test positivity, active cases, deaths are falling in India. Surprisingly, Delhi is bucking the trend. The numbers are rising, even though the more imprecise antigen tests are being used. It will be tragic if Delhi dropped the ball again now.
I don’t think Air India will find a buyer. Allowing it to fly into the sunset will remove a major skew in the aviation industry. Also end continuing haemorrhage from the fisc. IndiGo is a credible long term player, which should be supported through its recovery phase. It would be wonderful if Jet can be revived. Fewer people will be flying, leisure travel will take longer to be restored to earlier levels. Except for the government, all Indians are on a diet, will emerge slimmer.
