The world isn’t suddenly turning on India. Answer to V-Dem calling India an ‘electoral autocracy’ isn’t attacking it, but introspection. It isn’t Western bias if Hungary is also in this box. Global opinion matters. It helps Brand India when our vaccines are celebrated or PM Modi receives the CERAWeek Award.

CPM’s two-term limit for legislators is good. Left must adapt to change

CPM’s attempt to grow younger by implementing a two-term limit in Kerala in this election is good. Caught in a time warp, the Left stares at a dead end. Adapting its ideology and politics with a changed India is its only hope. Indian communists need to transform into social democrats.

  1. These people are busy bodies with lots of time on their hand, and impertinence in their minds. Who gave them the right to play God and judge other countries as less democratic?

  2. No need to get oneself into a twist due to prejudices of the West. The MEA needs to learn to ignore tweets and biased studies and reports. India needs to learn nothing from the West unless it wishes to follow the West’s ideals of war mongering and perpetuating enemity, racism, environmental degradation, economic colonialism, self aggrandisement, monopolising Covid vaccine to the detriment of the rest of the world, militarism etc. There is nothing for India to introspect based on opinions of Western countries.

  3. West cares only about itself : We don’t have to pay any attention to what the West is saying about us … Erudite column in ToI by CEA K. Subramanian. Also a scholar of Sanskrit and the epics. One only hopes he has an equally enlightened understanding of the many challenges the Indian economy faces and the helming that is required to restore it to its earlier glitter.
