The Modi government’s decision to impose stock limits and fix a minimum export price of onions is neither good politics nor good economics. It will hurt farmers and protect urban consumers. The correct policy response to seasonal onion politics is to develop scientific storage facilities and improve supply chain management.
Aaditya Thackeray’s decision to fight polls is bold, should change Sena style of politics
Young Aaditya Thackeray should be commended for making history by becoming the first Thackeray to contest elections instead of emulating his father and grandfather and remaining the power behind the throne. This should also change the Shiv Sena’s style of politics – make it a youthful, liberal, democratic and contemporary party.
Two major objectives should be to reduce spoilage of fruits / vegetables and trying to get a higher percentage of what the urban consumer pays to the farmer.
A seminal change from saying, We do not contest elections, simply hold the remote in our hands.
