India again votes against Israel at UN Gen Assembly. It’s clear that Narendra Modi has lost out to the MEA’s Nehruvian, Cold War establishment. This is no strong government, it’s just like any other. Except, unlike the Cold War where there was the Soviet Union, India has no allies today.

UN report on J&K takes India back to 1992

The UN report on human rights in J&K is a setback to India. The UN has raised these questions after a 25-year silence achieved by great diplomatic and strategic effort of five prime ministers. This is an embarrassing diplomatic failure. The clock in Kashmir is being set back to 1992.

But AAP ministers are on dharna, civil servants on non-cooperation, the Centre is applauding the impasse. And the Supreme Court, with its all-powerful Committee, is on vacation. This is anarchy.

Listing Air India is good, but govt needs to give up control

Good that the Modi Government hasn’t given up on privatising Air India. The new strategy of taking over its debt and listing through an IPO is audacious. A market-discovered value will discourage scandal-mongering. But for it to work, government must give up control, as with Maruti-Suzuki.

Never mind the winner, let’s cheer the Afghans

As underdog Afghanistan takes on the mighty Indians in their first Test today, spare a moment for how far the nation, wracked by decades of civil war, has come. It doesn’t matter who wins. Just cheer these Afghan heroes, on and off the cricket field, who refuse to give up.
