This edition of ‘Off The Cuff’ saw actor Ranveer Singh speaking about the protests over his recent release Padmaavat, and why he had kept mum throughout the controversy. Singh said the protests and attack on the film’s director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, had enraged him, but he had been asked by friends and the film’s producers not to say or do anything, because it could make things worse.
Singh also batted for the scrapping of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalises homosexuality, and said he had no apprehensions playing the bisexual Alauddin Khilji. “I am a very liberal-minded person and think Section 377 should be scrapped,” he told ThePrint’s Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta and Contributing Editor Mahrukh Inayet.
