ThePrint asks:

Is Modi going overboard by blaming Pakistan for trying to influence Gujarat polls?

The Congress party’s outreach to Pakistan, both in the context of national interest and during Gujarat elections, is certainly most inappropriate and a poor reflection of the party’s wisdom and the discretion.

Especially when you view it in the context of Mani Shankar Aiyar asking Pakistan to support them in dislodging Narendrabhai on his visit to Pakistan. It is very clear as to what the agenda of this meeting would have been. His outburst of ‘neech aadmi‘ is further strengthening our concerns about the agenda at such a sensitive juncture.

The Prime Minister is right in cautioning the nation about how the conduct of the Congress Party is so amazingly deplorable. To entertain an individual like Mani Shankar Aiyar, to enter into a dialogue with the Pakistani people at his behest, is certainly unpardonable. If such people are entertained by the Congress, it is reflective of their national commitment.

Here are other sharp perspectives on the question:

Zahid Hussain, is a journalist and author in Pakistan
Manish Tewari, spokesperson, Congress party

Some things are not evaluated in terms of the effect; they are evaluated in terms of the context and caution, which must be expressed.

Whether it helps the BJP or not, is not the issue, some things are more critical from the perspective of the nation and not the political consequences or cost.

The Congress continues to patronise somebody who is willing to break bread with the enemy of the state, and is willing to be a conspirator and overthrow people’s mandate.

In response, the Congress party is now attacking Prime Minister Modi for having visited Pakistan two years ago. Attempts to forge peace with Pakistan by the Prime Minister cannot be compared to Mani Shankar Aiyar’s conduct. Did Modi go to Pakistan to dislodge Rahul Gandhi?
