U.S. President Donald Trump’s daughter and an official presidential advisor, Ivanka Trump, landed in Hyderabad early Tuesday morning. She is heading the US delegation for the joint India-US Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES)

What she will be doing

The theme of the GES is “Women First, Prosperity for All” and Ivanka will participate in discussions that focus on increasing the participation of women in the workforce through education, skills training, structural changes, and mentorship.

She will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session on Tuesday and will conduct a workshop tomorrow. The summit will also feature 1,200 young entrepreneurs from over 127 countries, of which 52.5 per cent of the participants will be women.

Hyderabad undergoes makeover for Trump

With nearly 10,000 security personnel, including commandos, special and civil police, guarding the hotel, roads, and venue location, Hyderabad pulled out all the stops to welcome Ivanka Trump.

Earlier this month, Hyderabad authorities went into overdrive in their efforts to ‘clean-up’ the city by filling potholes and manholes, and rounding up over 200 beggars and moving them to shelter homes located on the grounds of two city prisons.

Ivanka Trump’s visit matters to India because she has been personally selected by her father, the President of the Unites States to be his unpaid advisor on policy matters both domestically and globally.

While she has not been accompanied by any senior State Department officials on this trip, her 350-member delegation is composed of other top-administrative officials, and will be responsible for advising Trump on future collaborations in the space of empowering entrepreneurship.

The author of ‘Women Who Work,’ Ivanka Trump has claimed her role in the White House is to primarily have a ‘moderating influence’ on her father.

What she’s been criticised for

Ivanka Trump’s political and ideological stand in U.S politics has remained unclear to a majority of people following her career. Donald Trump’s policy decision to slash funding to Planned Parenthood, strip mandatory maternity care from insurance plans, and pressurise clinics to cease offering abortion services or risk losing support, did not reflect Ivanka’s claims of a working woman’s feminism. It also brought into question the limits of her ability to influence the President.

Ivanka has gone on record to say her father is “not a groper,” and that “he has total respect for women” despite Trump’s extensive record of inappropriate and misogynistic comments against women coming to light.

Her visit to India has also been clouded by a recent controversy surrounding her clothing line, as well the criticism the Hyderabad government received for its sudden crackdown on beggars.
