The BJP plans to lodge FIRs against police officers, who it alleges, are colluding with the ruling TMC in the state. Even the police is not above the law, says BJP MP Roopa Ganguly.
In the face of multiple FIRs lodged against its leaders, the BJP is now planning to launch an offensive against the state police for “shielding TMC goons” in Bengal.
BJP MP from West Bengal, Roopa Ganguly told ThePrint that a list of names of police officers, who the BJP believes are colluding with the TMC, is being prepared. The police officers, the party has alleged, are protecting TMC miscreants and preventing action against the ruling party leaders.
The state police has filed several cases against BJP leaders in the aftermath of riots and communal violence in the state. While BJP leader Nupur Sharma was accused of posting fake photos of violence in Bengal, another FIR was lodged against DU professor Rakesh Sinha. A senior member of the BJP’s IT cell was also arrested by the police earlier this month.
“There are particular police officers who are not acting against the goons of TMC, and rather protection is being extended to them by these select police officers. Once this monsoon session is over, we are going to lodge FIRs against them,” said the actor-turned-politician.
“Nobody is above the law,” she said.
Ganguly also argued that the alleged inaction by some police officials dampens the morale of the entire police apparatus. “These few are maligning the name of the police department. The wrong policemen are hurting the feeling of respect that was there in people for police. Spoiling (the) name of all officers because of a few is going to harm society badly,” she said.
Ganguly’s comments come in the backdrop of the BJP campaign against the West Bengal government and the ruling TMC.
Sources in the party said that party leaders have been asked to stage protests in favour of “saving Bengal” as it sends across a message to the party cadre that the entire country is watching over them.
